Occupational Therapy

"Bridging Physical Recovery to Real-World Function"

What is Occupational Therapy?

At painPRO, Occupational Therapy (OT) integrates seamlessly into our multidisciplinary clinics to help clients move beyond pain relief and into meaningful, functional recovery.

Occupational Therapists assess how an injury or condition impacts your ability to function at home, at work, and in your community to create a clear, structured plan to help you regain independence and confidence.

We proudly support clients funded through ICBC, extended health benefits, and private pay.

Occupational Therapy focuses on improving your ability to perform the daily activities that matter most to you, whether that’s returning to work, driving, managing your home, or participating in your community.

Our OTs provide:

  • Comprehensive functional assessments
  • Individualized treatment planning
  • Goal-oriented rehabilitation programs
  • Detailed, insurer-ready reporting when required

OT acts as the bridge between physical recovery, cognitive function, and real-world performance.

Occupational Therapy FAQ

Occupational Therapists (OTs) work with individuals of all ages and help improve their ability to perform daily activities, work tasks, and self-care following an injury, illness, or medical condition. They focus on restoring independence, enhancing function, and supporting safe return to work or daily routines.

OTs assess how your injury affects movement, strength, and function in everyday tasks. They provide personalized strategies, adaptive techniques, and exercises to reduce pain, improve mobility, and regain confidence in daily activities.

During your first session, the OT will typically come to your home to:

  • Review your medical history and injury details
  • Observe your movements and functional abilities
  • Identify areas of difficulty or limitation
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals

Yes. OTs provide guidance on safe work practices, gradual return-to-work plans, ergonomic adjustments, and exercises to support work-related tasks. They help collaborate with employers and other stakeholders to ensure that returning to work is safe and sustainable.

OT services are generally covered under extended health insurance plans. Coverage varies by plan, so it’s best to confirm with your provider before your first appointment. Receipts and documentation can be provided for insurance claims.

Yes! ICBC requires a general practitioner to make a recommendation for occupational therapy services. Once approved, we can set up an initial assessment. Your OT will provide the necessary reports to ICBC and liaise with all of your practitioners to support your care.

OTs address both. They help with physical challenges such as mobility, strength, and joint function, as well as cognitive challenges including memory, attention, and problem-solving skills following injury or illness.

The number of sessions depends on your condition, goals, and progress. Your OT will provide an individualized treatment plan after your assessment, including an estimate of sessions and expected recovery timeline, which may be adjusted as you progress.
